BCS Talks | Monica Popescu

It is with great pleasure and pride that we invite you to our next BCS Talks event on Monday, May 9, at 4 pm, when Dr. Monica Popescu, one of our most prestigious alumnae, will engage the challenging and thorny topic of “Postcolonial Studies and the Cold War”.

Monica Popescu, who holds a BA and MA from the English Department at the University of Bucharest, is William Dawson Scholar of African Literature & Associate Professor at McGill University and book series co-editor for the Routledge Studies in Cultures of the Global Cold War. Her works include At Penpoint: African Literatures, Postcolonial Studies and the Cold War (Duke UP, 2020; Honorable Mention, Scaglione Prize in Comparative Literary Studies from the Modern Language Association. 2022), The Cultural Cold War and the Global South Sites of Contest and Communitas (Routledge 2021, co-edited with K. Bystrom and K. Zien), and South African Literature Beyond the Cold War (Palgrave, 2010).
